Detecting Microfiber Shedding with a Rapid Wash Color Fastness Tester
New 4 6 月, 2025
The release of microfiber in household washing, also known as shedding, has become a hot topic in the textile industry with the ongoing goal of dealing with aquatic pollution. Although initially thought to be a problem with man-made fibers only, contamination of natural fibers has also been found in the food chain of marine organisms that carry out water treatment in most water recycling plants.
The AATCC RA100 committee was the first to decipher this matter in 2021 with the publication of TM 212, Test Methods for the Release of Fiber Debris during Household Laundering. The AATCC has effectively taken a step to help reduce world ISO TC38 (International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee on Textiles) is working on a similar standard that will also use the wash fastness testers detailed in ISO 105-C06, “Colour fastness testing of textiles, Part C06: Colour fastness to domestic and commercial laundering”.
