Geotextile Abrasion Tester
Category:Material Strength Tester
Introduction
The geotextile abrasion tester, also known as the geotextile abrasion resistance testing machine, uses the sandpaper-slider method to determine the abrasion resistance of geotextiles and related products. During the test, the sample is mounted on a fixed platform and rubbed with an abrasive material with specified surface properties. Under controlled pressure and friction, the abrasive material moves in a straight line along the horizontal axis. Abrasion resistance is expressed as the percentage loss of tensile strength of the sample before and after friction.
Application
The wear resistance of geotextile and its related products was measured by emery cloth-sliding block method. During the experiment, the sample is mounted on a fixed platform and rubbed with an abrasive with specified surface properties. Under the condition of controlling the pressure and friction action, the abrasive moves in a straight line along the horizontal axis. Wear resistance is expressed as the percentage loss of tensile strength of the specimen before and after friction.

FAQ
1. What is a Geotextile Wear Tester?
The Geotextile Wear Tester is a device designed to evaluate the abrasion resistance and durability of geotextiles under repeated rubbing or friction, simulating real-world wear conditions in civil engineering and construction applications.
2. How does the wear test work?
The tester applies controlled friction between the geotextile sample and an abrasive surface or pad, often using a rotating, reciprocating, or oscillating motion. The loss in mass, thickness, or strength is measured to assess wear resistance.
3. What types of geotextiles can be tested?
It can test woven, nonwoven, and knitted geotextiles used in road construction, embankments, drainage, erosion control, and landfill applications. The machine accommodates various sample sizes and thicknesses.
4. What parameters are measured during testing?
The machine measures abrasion loss, thickness reduction, tensile strength retention, and wear index. Some advanced models also log cycles, friction load, and surface condition for detailed analysis.
5. Why is wear testing important for geotextiles?
Wear testing ensures geotextiles maintain structural integrity and performance under friction and mechanical stress during installation and service. It helps manufacturers improve material durability, prevent premature failure, and ensure long-term project reliability.
