Introduction
A Geotextile Creep Tester is a specialized laboratory instrument used to evaluate the long-term deformation (elongation) of geotextiles and related geosynthetics when subjected to a constant tensile load over an extended period.
Unlike a standard tensile test that measures strength at immediate break, creep testing assesses how the material slowly deforms over time under continuous stress, often for thousands of hours. This is critical for predicting the long-term performance and design life of geosynthetics in civil engineering applications like reinforced soil structures, embankments, and retaining walls, where they must sustain loads for decades. The tester typically maintains a constant load on the specimen while precisely measuring its elongation, often under controlled temperature conditions, in accordance with standards like ISO 13431 and ASTM D5262-2007.
